Hannah

Hi y’all! I hope you had a great weekend and thank you for patiently waiting for the next post. I won’t keep you waiting so open your Bibles to 1 Samuel 1-2 and let’s read about Hannah.
There’s so much we learn from her in such a small amount of time. As we’re introduced to Hannah we see that she is married to Elkanah and was loved very much by him. We also see that Hannah was barren. Hannah desperately wanted a child and she took her sorrow to the Lord. Common sense right? Hmm, it’s easy to say “go to the Lord” but how often do we find ourselves actually placing our sorrows in the hands of God? I for one internally freak out first, then try to find a solution, and THEN I go to the heavenly Father. Obviously, that is not the order that God wants from us. Hannah took her sorrow straight to God, and what was amazing was she did that at a time when going to the Lord wasn’t normal. In 1:13-14 the priest thought she was drunk! That’s how far away God’s people were from Him. Later on, the Lord remembered her and gave her a son. In chapter 2 we see Hannah fully praising the Lord for His goodness! She could’ve walked away from God, but instead, she had persistent faith and prayer. These are two beautiful things to have. Not only having persistent faith but having persistent prayer as well.
As we read about Hannah we learned the following:
● She lived during a time when Israel was not focused on the Lord.
● She was barren.
● She is the mother of Samuel.
● She had persistent faith in the Lord.
Let’s discuss what we just read. I have some questions that I want you to think about, write them down, and if you’d like to comment below we can discuss them together!

  1. What did we learn about God and His character in the life of Hannah?
  2. What character qualities, positive or negative, do we see in Hannah’s life?
  3. What can I learn from Hannah’s story and apply it to my own life?

I want to ask a question and I want you to just sit with it for a moment. What if God thought about you as much as you think about Him? What would your spiritual life look like? I know for myself the devil would be in serious trouble if that was true.
Praying in boldness is so important and Hannah teaches us that. She was bold, she was faithful, and she was persistent. I am so thankful for a God who remembers me, who knows me, and cherishes me. I am always on His mind and He adores me.
I hope you enjoy this study and decide to come back. Tomorrow, we’ll learn about the widow of Zarephath and how God moved in her life. I hope you enjoy the beautiful sunset that was made by our loving Father and y’all have a wonderful night.
