Understanding Our Sin Problem (Ash Wednesday)

Hi y’all!! I am so happy to be back and to also read this devotional with you! I bought this for last year’s Lent, but time snuck away from me. Alright, get cozy, grab your Bible, your journal, and get ready to be intimate with the Lord. Read Romans 6:1-11.

I have a story for you. My youngest brother (he is 22) has been battling with a lot of anger over the years. It seemed that no matter who tried to help him, things somehow managed to either get worse or people became emotionally exhausted from trying to help. I won’t get into all the details since it is not my story to tell, but I have been praying for him. Ultimately, I knew only Jesus would be able to heal his heart and take away all the shackles and chains he has been carrying for far too long. Well, I found out that he is in Hawaii on a mission’s trip and yesterday, on Ash Wednesday, he got baptized!! I cannot tell you how many times I watched the video and CRIED every time, along with dancing and praising Jesus! I have been overjoyed! Then, I read Romans 6:1-11 and cried, and thanked God again.

Y’all… when we get baptized, we are freed! Our old self was buried! We were buried with Him by baptism into death, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we also get to walk in newness of life. v6:4. How amazing is that?! When we accept Christ into our lives, we are taking the first step into dying to ourselves, when we get baptized, we are publicly declaring Jesus as our Saviour. This passage isn’t just about being baptized, we are informing ourselves that through the acts of accepting Him and then being baptized in His name, we are also dying to our old self (Crucifixion) and when we are being baptized, we are raising from the dead through Christ. Therefore, we are no longer enslaved to sin! We are dying daily to our sin, and when we mess up, then He gives us His grace. We are loved beyond what any of us can possibly imagine. When we trust and believe in Him, Jesus gives us new hearts that want to honor and obey Him (Ezekiel 36:25-27).

” The gospel is the answer to our sin problem.” Below I added a picture from my Lent prayer journal. I will add each day’s verse and prompt prayer. Today’s is Isaiah 1:18 and the prayer is: Pray for God to prepare your heart for Lent by cultivating gratitude for God’s forgiveness through Christ.

Take some time in prayer and ask Him to prepare your heart as we continue in this study. Thank Him for Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.

I hope you enjoy this study and decide to come back. Tomorrow, we’ll learn about Experiencing a World Created and Tainted. I hope you enjoy the beautiful sunset that was made by our loving Father and y’all have a wonderful night.
