Hi everyone! I pray you are having a great week and ready for our devotional today. Open your Bibles to Ephesians 4:25. “Christ’s salvation has changed us, enabling us to live differently than who we once were.”
In a world that often blurs the lines between truth and falsehood, the call to love truth over lies is more urgent than ever. Honoring truth is not just about honesty—it’s about living in alignment with the values that nurture trust, love, and integrity. As followers of Christ, we are encouraged to embrace truth wholeheartedly, allowing it to shape our relationships and our character. The Apostle Paul provides profound guidance on this matter in his letters to the early churches. In Ephesians 4:25, he writes: “Therefore, each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” This call to authenticity emphasizes the importance of truth in building unity among people. Lying fractures relationships, leads to distrust and hinders the work of grace in our lives and communities. By comparison, truth-telling fosters mutual understanding and strengthens the bond of love that unites us as one body in Christ. Similarly, in Colossians 3:9-10, Paul urges believers: “Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” Here, truth is presented as central to our transformation in Christ. To embrace the new self—the identity rooted in God’s image—we must reject the habits of deceit and falsehood. Truth is not just an external action; it is an internal commitment to live as God intended, with hearts attuned to His will. But loving truth goes beyond avoiding lies. It requires us to seek truth in all areas of our lives—truth about ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. It means standing firm in what is right, even when doing so is inconvenient or challenging. It means choosing words and actions that reflect the sincerity of our hearts and the love of God. To love truth is to cherish it as a divine gift, one that brings light to the darkness and clarity to confusion. As we strive to live in truth, we must remember that truth ultimately reflects God’s character. Jesus declared, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6). By loving truth, we are drawn closer to Him, embodying the values that His teachings instill within us.
Let us commit to being truth-bearers in our homes, workplaces, and communities. May our love for truth inspire others to turn away from falsehood and toward the light of Christ. As we practice honesty and integrity in all we do, we become living testimonies of God’s truth—a truth that transforms, heals, and redeems.
Let’s discuss what we just learned. I have some questions that I want you to think about, write them down, and if you’d like to comment below, we can discuss them together!
- In what ways do you struggle with lying?
- Read John 8:44 and Numbers 23:19. What does these verses say about who God is compared to Satan? How can you reflect who God is through your speech?
- Read Ephesians 4:15. Take some time to reflect on this verse and how speaking truth in love could look like.
“The Spirit helps us to be people of truth, so let us rely on Him to speak truthfully.”
Today’s verse for Lent prayer is John 14:6 and the prayer prompt is, “Pray for those who do not know Jesus to turn away from any other thing that promises life apart from Him and come to Him alone for salvation.”
I hope you enjoy this study and decide to come back. Tomorrow we will discuss Speaking Graciously instead of Obscenely. I hope you enjoy the beautiful sunset that was made by our loving Father and y’all have a wonderful night.
