Happy Monday everyone! I pray you had a wonderful weekend and are ready to dive into Psalm 11. “We can be confident that He will use trials to refine us.”
In a world full of uncertainty, trials, and shifting foundations, trust can feel difficult. Yet, Scripture reminds us that trusting God is not optional—it is essential. Psalm 11 serves as a powerful declaration of confidence in the Lord, even when chaos surrounds us. It begins with a firm statement: “In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me: ‘Flee like a bird to your mountain’?” (Psalm 11:1, NIV) When troubles arise, the instinct may be to run, fear, or doubt. The world may suggest retreating to earthly solutions, but David—the psalm’s author—chooses to trust instead. He knows that God remains sovereign over the righteous and sees all. This perspective is echoed throughout Scripture, emphasizing that trusting in God goes beyond what we can physically see.
Trusting Beyond Sight
“For we live by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7, NIV)
Faith requires surrendering control. We often long for clear reassurances, but God calls us to walk in trust even when the outcome remains unseen. Like David in Psalm 11, we must plant our confidence in the truth that God is watching, judging, and protecting His children. Even in rough times, His sovereignty reigns.
Trusting God’s Plan
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28, NIV)
Life’s difficulties can make it hard to trust. When hardships arise, we might question whether God is truly working for our good. However, Romans 8:28 assures us that every trial, every moment, is being woven into His divine plan. Trusting means believing that even the struggles serve a greater purpose, refining us, strengthening our faith, and aligning us closer to God’s will.
Trusting with Your Whole Heart
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV)
True trust requires full surrender. We are naturally inclined to lean on our own logic, understanding, and instincts, yet God invites us to relinquish that control and submit fully to Him. This means trusting even when circumstances seem unfair or confusing, knowing that His ways are higher than ours.
Trusting in Victory
“If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31, NIV)
This verse is a bold declaration of God’s power and protection. Trusting God is not passive—it is confidence in His strength, knowing that nothing can stand against those whom He defends. No matter how dark the world feels, we do not trust in vain. Our trust is anchored in a God who never fails.
Choosing Trust
Psalm 11 teaches us that trust is a choice, not an emotion. Though fear, doubt, and difficulty may tempt us to waver, our refuge is in the Lord. When we choose faith over fear, we align ourselves with His promises—knowing that He is good, He is sovereign, and He is always for us.
We will trust, not because circumstances are perfect, but because our God is.
Let’s discuss what we just read. I have some questions that I want you to think about, write them down, and if you’d like to comment below, we can discuss them together!
- Spend some time thinking about your allegiance to faith and logic. Which do you hold fast to? Does your faith in God triumph over earthly logic?
- What does this psalm teach you about what the Lord despises? How does this expand your understanding of who God is?
- What does this psalm teach you about what the Lord loves? Does this psalm encourage you to flee from sin and unrighteousness?
Let this be our declaration today: No matter what comes, we will trust in the Lord!
I hope you enjoy this study and decide to come back. Tomorrow, we’ll learn about Psalm 12- His Word Will Never Fail. I hope you enjoy the beautiful sunset that was made by our loving Father and y’all have a wonderful night.
