Hi ladies! Today we are going to read about Anna so, let’s open our Bibles and read Luke 2:22-28.

Anna’s whole story is recorded in three short verses, but those verses give us quite a bit of insight into her life. By the time we meet her, she is 84 years old, and from the information that we have, we see that she was widowed at a young age. Her husband died just seven years after they married and she was widowed ever since. From what the verses tell us, it is likely that she lived on the temple grounds. People at the temple knew who she was and scripture even calls her a prophetess. Which likely means that she proclaiming and declaring the Word  of God and likely that she was teaching other women.

Anna knew and loved God’s Word. She spent her days proclaiming God’s truth and praying at the temple. In verse 38 it says that Anna began to give thanks to God and would speak of Him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. While praying in the temple, Anna overheard the conversation between Mary, Joseph, and Simeon. God had answered her prayers and allowed her to see the Messiah. He was the One she had been waiting and praying for and she couldn’t help but praise God when she finally saw Jesus. Scripture tells us that she could not stop speaking of Jesus. Her life had been dedicated to proclaiming the coming of the Messiah. And now she knew Him.

Let’s discuss what we just read. I have some questions that I want you to think about, write them down, and if you’d like to comment below we can discuss them together!

  1. What did we learn about God and His character in the life of Anna?
  2. What character qualities, positive or negative, do we see in Anna’s life?
  3. What can I learn from Anna’s story and apply it to my own life?

Anna was faithful and it is something I certainly admire. She dedicated her whole life to the Lord and served Him joyfully. We also see the faithfulness of God. He heard her prayers when she prayed for decades, for the Messiah. God rewarded her faithfulness by showing her His Son. Even though we read so little about Anna, we learned a great deal. She was so faithful to the Lord and she gave Him praise when she got to meet Jesus.

I hope you enjoy this study and decide to come back. Tomorrow we’ll start with the Woman of Samaria and see how God moved in her life. I hope you enjoy the beautiful sunset that was made by our loving Father and y’all have a wonderful night.
