Hi everyone! I hope you have been doing well and resting with allergy season upon us. Unfortunately, it has hit me hard which is why I have been behind. With that said, today we are reading about Health and Medicine. Open your Bibles and read Job 14:5; 1 Timothy 4:6-10; 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.
Health and medicine are two very big factors in our society today. Everyone is looking for what’s healthy, what’s not, what type of medicine shouldn’t I take, what kind is okay, etc. It is a game changer from twenty years ago. Especially when it comes to mental health. It all comes down to this, we want what’s best for our bodies so we can live a long and healthy life. We can definitely have some say in our health with our eating choices, how often we exercise, and what medicines we take, but the reality is when God calls us to spend eternity with Him, we’ll go. We do not have power over that. We cannot change when we will die. I know we all want long and happy lives, but we do not have any control over that- only God does and I am very thankful for that.
Now, sometimes we have no say whatsoever over our physical health. Our bodies can be allergic to anything and different medicines can affect us differently. Sometimes we have no say over what the number on the scale is and there is no explanation for it. These things are okay! When we compare ourselves to others we are saying we aren’t good enough. I have another point for you…. When you say you aren’t good enough, you’re saying God isn’t good enough. You’re saying that He made a mistake. Imagine that, the God who created the universe, the One who took the time to carefully create every detail on every tree, plant, animal, etc. He somehow made a mistake with you…. Darling, that is a lie from the devil himself. You are giving him power every time you look in that mirror and compare yourself to someone else or say there is something wrong with you. Stop! Remember who you are! You are the daughter of the King (2 Corinthians 6:18). You are an heir of God and a co-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17).
Let’s discuss what we just read. I have some questions that I want you to think about, write them down, and if you’d like to comment below we can discuss them together!
- In what ways are you tempted to idolize health and medicine?
- How can we steward our lives well with the understanding that this life is temporal?
- Salvation in Jesus Christ is our ultimate hope for a life that lasts. How does this truth equip you to battle the temptation to idolize health and medicine?
Wanting to be healthy is not a bad thing, but when you let it rule over your mind and how it affects your thoughts, that’s when it becomes an idol. God did not make a mistake creating you. You are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image. He adores who you are- His creation.
I hope you enjoy this study and decide to come back. Tomorrow, we’ll learn about Food and learn how it can become an idol. I hope you enjoy the beautiful sunset that was made by our loving Father and y’all have a wonderful night.
