Hello ladies! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are ready for the new year! As we round the corner for the new year, I am wanted to finish this devotional. If you will open your bibles and let’s ready Psalm 37:4 and Titus 3:3-7.
When I think of passions I think of the wonderful things God has gifted us. I love seeing people follow their passions and seeing the joy on their face when they talk about it or show it. There are days I wish I was as passionate about something as others are. But I realized that I am passionate about something- or someone. I get that glow when I talk about my God. I love helping people work through the mess that life gives us and seeing them put the pieces together, and when that light bulb comes on for them when they realize just how good God is… there are no words to describe the joy I feel. Please do not take this as I am bragging or think “of course the girl who has a bible blog would say that”. I truly love the Lord with all my heart and nothing sets my soul on fire as when I see the Lord moving. I pray that we all find this joy that the God gives us.
Over time, we may find new passions, things we didn’t even know that we were interested in. The beautiful thing about this is that God gives us these wonderful gifts. He gives us these interests and desires not only to express ourselves but also to worship Him with this gift. Obviously, it is easy to express these feelings with music, art, dancing, etc. But what about in sports, in our jobs, with our families? In our everyday lives we can sometimes find it difficult to express God in these passions. But we can express them in how we act, in how we treat others, in the joy we have, in our attitudes, and the words we speak. When you have a bad day playing sports, your job is overwhelming, your family is asking too much and you feel as if you are about to explode, will you take your frustration out on others or will you learn from the bad day and make tomorrow better? When we share with others our passions, are we giving God the glory or are we taking it for ourselves? Our lives will reflect where our hearts lie and what we love most. Are we more passionate about God or something else? God must remain the recipient of our deepest praise and affection. The beauty of expressing our passions is that we are able to reflect our beautiful Savior.
Let’s discuss what we just read. I have some questions that I want you to think about, write them down, and if you’d like to comment below we can discuss them together!
- How might you be tempted to idolize your passions?
- How can we explore our passions without finding our purpose and identity in it?
- In what ways can you use your specific passions to glorify God?
Jesus’ greatest interest and desire was to reconcile God’s people back to Himself so that God would glorified, and His people could be satisfied. Jesus showed His love through such a passionate way- dying on the cross. He found His greatest delight in accomplishing the will of His Father. Jesus modeled perfectly for us what our ultimate goal and pursuit in life should be. We can be eager and pursue our passions, while yearning to be with the One who gives us purpose and identity.
I hope you enjoy this study and decide to come back. In our next study we will go over Screens and how we make it an idol. I hope you enjoy the beautiful sunset that was made by our loving Father and y’all have a wonderful night
