Hello ladies! I hope you had a wonderful week and are ready to dive into the Word of our loving Father. Open your bibles and read Matthew 14:28-31 and 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3.
When it comes to security, this is something we all long for. It doesn’t matter if it’s feeling secure in a relationship, finances, careers, etc. We are always looking for ways to feel secure. We tell ourselves the lie that we can find full, satisfying security in things that are temporary, when in fact, we only find true security in our Savior. Now, there is nothing wrong with wanting to work hard, having a relationship, or being able to pay our bills. It is when we place these things above the Lord that it becomes an idol. It is when we tell ourselves that it is something we need to do or accomplish that will give us security instead of trusting and having faith in Jesus. He is the only One who can truly give us full, satisfying security.
Peter is a great example of placing our faith in Christ in Matthew. Jesus calls out to His disciples and asked Peter to have faith. Peter had faith in Jesus until he took his eyes and focus off Jesus. When Peter doubted is when he started to fall. How often are we like Peter? We are tempted to keep our eyes on the external scenarios and we miss the opportunity to trust in Jesus in our situations. Where do you go when you are stressed about a situation? Do you tell yourself that you are the only one who can fix it? Do you ask others for help? Are you a doer and go out to make yourself feel better? These can be great qualities, but only when we place Jesus at the front. Are we asking Jesus to take charge of our fears and asking Him for help?
Let’s discuss what we just read. I have some questions that I want you to think about, write them down, and if you’d like to comment below we can discuss them together!
- In what ways are you tempted to idolize security?
- How might you, like Peter, be tempted to take your eyes off Jesus when things feel unsure and uncertain?
- How does Jesus promise greater security in Himself than the world could ever offer?
Satan wants nothing more than to use those fears and doubts to tempt us to doubt and believe the lie that we are not really secure in Christ. Satan will coerce us in every way to look to other things on which to cling. Remember that you are not alone in being tempted by the devil. Jesus was tempted for 40 by Satan and He held on to the promise of our Father (Matthew 4:1-11). There is nothing that we face that Jesus doesn’t understand. He went through it all-for us.
I hope you enjoy this study and decide to come back. Tomorrow, we’ll learn about Materialism and Wealth and how they can become an idol. I hope you enjoy the beautiful sunset that was made by our loving Father and y’all have a wonderful night.
