Hi everyone! I pray that you got plenty of rest this past weekend for this week. Today we will be reading out of Ephesians 4:1-6 & Philippians 2:2. “Followers of Christ are called to cultivate unity, not cause division.”
In a world that seems increasingly marked by division and discord. The pursuit of unity is not merely a theological standard; it is the core to the Christian faith and reflects the heart of God for His people. The Apostle Paul writes in Philippians 2:2, “Make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.” This verse highlights the importance of unity within the body of Christ, emphasizing shared love, purpose, and mindset. Such unity is grounded in humility and a Christ-centered focus, not in conformity to human opinions. Paul speaks this in Ephesians 4:1-6, urging believers to live lives worthy of their calling: “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” These verses remind us that unity is not optional but is essential to the Christian identity, rooted in the character of God Himself. Unity does not mean the absence of diversity or disagreement. Instead, it requires a commitment to love and mutual respect that overcome differences. Christians are called to approach one another with humility, gentleness, and patience—qualities that foster understanding and reconciliation. Division often arises from pride, selfish ambition, or a focus on worldly matters. The biblical call to unity challenges us to put aside such barriers and fix our eyes on Christ, who is our common foundation. When we seek unity through Him, our differences can become opportunities for growth rather than sources of conflict.
What are some ways we can reflect and grow in this area:
Cultivate Humility: Recognize that unity begins with a posture of humility. As Philippians 2:3-4 instructs, consider others above yourself and seek their good.
Focus on the Essentials: Unity flourishes when believers prioritize their shared faith in Christ over secondary issues. Ephesians 4:4-6 reminds us of the “one body and one Spirit” that binds us together.
Practice Forgiveness: Division often stems from unresolved hurt. Choose forgiveness and reconciliation, reflecting the grace we’ve received through Christ.
Seek the Spirit’s Guidance: Unity is ultimately the work of the Holy Spirit. Through prayer and reliance on Him, believers can foster unity that glorifies God. Unity is not always easy, but it is a powerful testimony of the transforming work of Christ in our lives. By seeking unity over division, believers can reflect the heart of God and live out their calling in a broken world. As Paul reminds us, we are part of one body, united by one Spirit, called to one hope, under one Lord. Let us make every effort to live in harmony, embracing the peace that Christ has established. In doing so, we honor God and shine as a light to the world.
Let’s discuss what we just learned. I have some questions that I want you to think about, write them down, and if you’d like to comment below, we can discuss them together!
- How does the gospel encourage unity as believers?
- In what ways can you pursue and maintain unity?
- Read Jesus’ prayer from John 17:20-23. What does this prayer from Jesus reveal about God’s desire for His people?
“As believers, we are enabled to be like our peaceful Savior through the help of the Spirit.”
Today’s verse for Lent prayer is 1 John 4:10 and the prayer prompt is, “Praise God over the marvelous truth that He loved you first and pray that you will rest in His love displayed perfectly through Christ.”
I hope you enjoy this study and decide to come back. Tomorrow, we will discuss Embracing Honesty over Hypocrisy. I hope you enjoy the beautiful sunset that was made by our loving Father and y’all have a wonderful night.
